Sand Casting Class in Colorado Springs, CO – Sand Casting Classes – In this incredibly fun Sand Casting class, you will melt and pour molten Sterling Silver into a special sand to make your project. You can make a ring, a pendant, or earrings. This is a great way to start learning about casting and is less expensive than lost wax casting. This class is suitable for the absolute beginner as well as experienced metalsmiths. Come enjoy this exciting class and leave with something uniquely yours!
You will learn how to:
- Season a crucible
- Melt sterling silver (on purpose)
- Cast silver
- Clean up your casting(s)
- Drill holes in cast metal
- Assemble your piece
Supplies needed: (flasks, sand, crucibles, molds will be supplied) All other supplies will be provided by Cottonwood Silver and Lapidary Supplies.
· ½ ozt of sterling silver scrap or casting grain
· 14-gauge drill bits
· 16-gauge wire (for jump ring bails)
· 19-gauge wire (for ear wire)
Bonnie Nelson has been a jewelry artist for over 20 years and loves to work with silver and turquoise. She enjoys learning old techniques and then figures how to use it in a contemporary setting. She believes in building community and works at bringing people together to learn metalsmithing techniques.
Bonnie has a Masters degree in Business Education from Oklahoma State University and has worked in the education field for over 50 years. She loves teaching and currently teaches silversmithing at her st.dio, Cottonwood Silver and Lapidary Supplies in downtown Colorado Springs, CO. She owns and operates Cottonwood Silver and Lapidary Supplies.
